Introduction
Confocal Endomicroscopy is a newly available endoscopic technique from Pentax which combines microscopy and endoscopy. Endomicroscopy enables in vivo microscopy of the whole mucosal layer at subcellular resolution during ongoing endoscopy.

This technique enables new insights into in vivo architecture of the mucosal layer of the gut. A plethora of details become visible and offer new diagnostic possibilities. Structured training of endomicroscopic technique , confocal image interpretation and in vivo histology is essentialto reach competence in endomicroscopy. We would like to offer you in cooperation with Pentax different types of training courses of endomicroscopy at Mainz University, which are adapted to your specific needs.

We are looking forward to welcome you in Mainz and to offer you a new insight of microscopy in endoscopy.

Training at the centre of excellence
The interdisciplinary endoscopy unit at the Johannes Gutenberg
University of Mainz is the Centre of Excellence for endomicroscopic imaging with more than 1000 examinations performed so far.

The very first clinical study about the diagnostic yield of endomicroscopy was performed in Mainz and was published as a featured article in Gastroenterology in 2004. Since then, different new indications and imaging possibilities were explored and have lead to multiple publications, oral presentations and educational programmes. Mainz University is now offering different types of tutorial visitations, which will provide the participants with a deep insight and structured training of endomicroscopy.

Aim and Spectrum of the training
The purpose of the different training courses is to offer you initial and advanced training lessons and to provide you with in depth knowledge about the technique and the clinical value of endomicroscopy. The courses contain different elements: live demonstrations, hands on training, image interpretation, technological review and update and overview about recent publications in the field of endomicroscopy.
  Programmes
You can select from three types of training programmes:

1-day seminar: start-up package
Live and on site you will see a number of examinations, learn how easy it is to handle the endomicroscope and get a first glance on endomicroscopical images along with guidance from the endomicroscopists of Mainz. They will attend you through the day so you can immerse in this new topic. This offer includes a state-of-the-art lecture and an introduction to image interpretation.

2-day seminar: complete package
Extensive training on reviewing and interpretation of endomicroscopic images and comparable histological slides is offered in addition to the components of the 1-day seminar. Both endoscopists and pathologists will assist you and guide you through the live cases and computer assisted image interpretation.

3-day seminar: expert package
This comprehensive seminar series offers you all available training possibilities including live-demonstrations, lectures, hands-on practice plus advanced image interpretation. You will be intensively trained in endomicroscopy and histopathology. Thus, you will be ready to start with endomicroscopy at your institution.
